Why A Doula Can Help After Infertility

I'm excited to welcome Jen Laird to the podcast.

We’re digging into why having a doula is beneficial after infertility and loss.

Jen Laird is a birth and postpartum doula. She is co-host of the Pushingit podcast.

When I had my children (many years ago – my eldest is now 18) doulas and midwives were not even on my radar.

Today doulas are being brought in as early as 8-10 weeks to help alleviate any fears/worries during the early weeks of pregnancy.

I wanted to explore how a doula could help – from the medical benefits such as reduced rate of C-section, length of labour and need for epidural. Plus how the healing power of touch can help when we are dealing with worry or anxiety.

Also the role of the doula during the postpartum period too!

In this episode you'll learn:

1) What the role of a doula is in pregnancy

2) What are the medical benefits of having a doula. How do we find a qaulified doula. We discuss training requriements, birth plan (or whether this is needed), availability (how close are they) and why they decided to become a doula.

3) Why a doula can be brought in as early as 8-10 weeks of pregnancy and how this can help alleviate fears and worries after inferilty, miscarriage or loss.
