Many of us going through infertility have been “told” to meditate.

While this is good advice, for some people even thinking about sitting still for a minute is overwhelming.

The key is to pick a stress management tool and add it to you daily routine.

Pick one the speaks to you:

It could be journaling, visualization, yoga, breath technique, meditation or walking meditation.

There are proven scientific studies linking the mind body connection and increasing the chances of having a baby.  Check out one study here.

Dr. Alice Domar pioneered the mind body fertility technique.  You can learn more about her approach in this movie trailer where Dr Domar is a featured guest here.

If you selected meditation here are a few tips to get started:

Meditation doesn’t mean you need to sit in a chair for 30 minutes thinking of absolutely nothing, while your monkey mind goes over your to do list and worries that you simply aren’t cut out to be a parent.

Meditation comes in many different forms.

The walking meditation may be a great option if you have a hard time sitting still.

“By moving the body, not only does a person stay fit, but in paying attention to the rhythm of one’s pace as well as one’s breathing pattern, a person’s mind begins to quiet.

The good news is that a walking meditation can be done anywhere and at anytime.”

“Walking early in the morning, just after waking up, when the air is cool and the birds are just starting to sing can refresh your spirit and put things in perspective too.

Breathe, step, breathe, step, breathe, step, chant, focus, become one with your walk”.  The Daily Heal

Remember it’s not about getting it right.

When thoughts start to come up, bring awareness to the thought and then focus back on the breath.

You will learn the simple 4 count breathing technique from Dr Andrew Weil’s colleague, Jim Nicolai.

Where in your day can you add a walking meditation?
