Excited to have Amira Posner, professional therapist, certified reiki and hypnotherapist join us for a guest post!  We’ll explore the power of mindfulness and the impact on your fertility.

Amira is an infertility counsellor and has experienced her own journey with secondary infertility.

I met Amira about two (2) years ago at the Mind Body Fertility Conference in Toronto.  She was the conference organizer and I had a booth at the conference, as I had just published my Fabulously Fertile book!  We’ve since collaborated on the online Mindfulness Fertility Series.  She has such a calming presence and I love her passion for helping individuals and couples who are struggling with infertility.

Discover how Amira’s sacred space impacted her infertility journey.  In her own words….

What started as a tiny altar has turned into an entire section of my house. It started 7 years ago when I was struggling with secondary infertility. To put it mildly, I was a mess. Completely occupied with my fertility treatment, I withdrew from the people around me. I even had to take time off work. I was spending a lot of time lying around on my butt at home.

One day, sinking deeper into my misery, I began to look at old pictures from when I was a tiny baby. I found one of me as a baby, maybe two months old, in my mother’s arms. This was the first item that I placed on my alter. There was something about the photo that made me happy. It reminded me of something bigger. A bigger picture.

As the alter grew, so did something inside of me. I began to focus some of my energies not on the sadness and heartache of my predicament, but instead on things that helped me connect to something deeper.

Everyday, I would look for things that inspired me. In nature, in art, in clothes, in jewellery, in food, in movies, music, in poetry, in essence.

If the item was tangible, I would add it to the alter.

Overtime, I realized that I had created a masterpiece. Each day I would get excited to spend time next to the alter and just add to it. It made me feel happier, inspired, more hopeful.

My masterpiece, which was the alter, was my own sacred space. It felt safe and comfortable.

What is a sacred space?

A sacred space is a a place where you go to get away from it all. It’s a place that allows you to connect with a deeper part of yourself and experience.

It may mean something different to everyone.

It could be uplifting, spiritual or calming. For me, it was an alter.

Find a place in your home for your sacred space is a start.

It can be in a bedroom, balcony, backyard, living room or wherever you have the space. If there is an extra bedroom in your house, I would strongly encourage you to use that room for your sacred space.

The Alter

You can select meaningful objects to include in your sacred space. Maybe a picture, crystal, a salt rock lamp, a Tibetan singing bowl, some incense, or a bell.

You can include essential oils (I love a diffuser), objects form nature such as stones or shells, plants, flowers, quotes, affirmations, favourite books, journal to write in and a mirror (to reflect positive energy).

Your task is to begin finding a sacred space and thinking about the items you want to put in that space.

  1. Begin thinking about the space.
  2. Collecting items that inspire you.
  3. Beginning YOUR masterpiece.
