How To Know If Your Glucose Levels Are Impacting Your Ability To Get Pregnant
May 02, 2022
Glucose monitoring is no longer just for diabetics! It is for anyone experiencing insulin resistance that is looking for a natural, healthy way to learn what is and isn’t serving their bodies! We regularly see blood sugar dysregulation with low, AMH, high FSH, diminished ovarian reserve, and premature ovarian insufficiency.
What is Insulin Resistance?
Traditionally speaking, Insulin Resistance is an impaired response of the body to insulin, resulting in elevated levels of glucose in the blood (a key component of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome).
However, the more we are all learning about our bodies, autoimmune conditions, hormone imbalances and other common obstacles keeping couples from getting pregnant with ease, insulin resistance is often a contributing factor.
Is This Biohacking?
The definition for biohacking is constantly evolving and at the roots it is the ability to change one’s body chemistry and physiology through both science (such as glucose readings )and self-experimentation (lifestyle-changes) to increase energy, vitality, and one’s life!
Some foods cause an insulin response that you wouldn’t necessarily think about as can certain movements at certain times. It is not as black and white as not eating those cookies Grandma makes just for you.
How To:
There are two primary ways to track your insulin:
- Glucometer
- Continuous Glucose monitor
Glucometers are easily available at pharmacies and online and can be quite affordable, although the cost of testing strips can add up. Glucometers work by analyzing a small amount of blood after a lancet pricks your skin, usually your fingertip. The meter then tells you your current blood sugar. But, since blood sugar levels change, you need to test levels often and record them.
Continuous glucose monitors monitor your glucose levels, you guessed it, continuously! Typically you will need to get a prescription from your doctor. If you are unable to receive a prescription from your physician, thankfully, amazing companies like Veri exist! Veri is on a mission to help more people feel better in their bodies, through the power of what they put into them every day.
But First:
Remember, there is no one size fits all diet because everyone is unique. What serves our bodies is unique! Glucose monitoring could be the key to unlocking your next personalized approach.
