How to Prepare for Pregnancy During the Holidays if You Have Low AMH

Testing your anti-mullerian hormone levels (AMH) can provide crucial insight into your fertility health. Your AMH is a hormone produced by cells that surround the eggs in your ovaries. The more eggs you have available, the higher the amount of AMH made.

Getting your AMH tested involves a blood test. Unlike checking your FSH, you can get this blood test at any point in your menstrual cycle. The more eggs you have, the higher your AMH level will be. The fewer eggs you have, the less AMH will be produced, indicating a lower ovarian reserve.

If you have been diagnosed as having a low AMH, meaning a “low ovarian reserve,” please know that it doesn’t mean that you cannot conceive. While it’s the holidays, we wanted to offer you some factors to consider and some New Years Resolutions that can effectively address a low AMH and preparing your body for pregnancy.

Five Ways You Can Get Pregnant Ready

1. Look at your diet. Ask yourself how much processed food you eat. Allergens such as dairy, gluten, corn, soy, eggs, and peanuts are found frequently across most processed foods. Eat a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, lean protein, and foods rich in folates, preferably organic if possible.

2. Get more sleep. Sleep is an essential factor in your overall health. In fact, Fertility and Sterility found that the quantity and quality of sleep affects your health and mood and your hormones and fertility.

3. Manage your stress. In this WebMD article, they explore the correlation between stress and fertility.

4. Invest in your relationship. Research has shown that trying to conceive can cause a tremendous strain on your relationships, not just with your partner but with yourself. We offer a tool that can support you that we call the emotional freedom technique (EFT). It something we include in our Fab Fertile Coaching Program.

5. Look into the functional approach. The functional approach can discover the causes of diseases like infertility. Check out the Fab Fertile Fertility Preparation Program as we look at frequently missed health aspects that may be impacting your fertility.

Using the Holidays To Your Advantage

Being told that you have a lower ovarian reserve is less than ideal. However, while we all are quarantining and social distancing during the holiday season, we encourage you to consider this an opportunity to recharge and consider new ways to look at your fertility in 2021.

Making the most of downtime, especially as we are closing out the year, can help you feel less powerless.

She was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure at 28 and had both her kids with donor eggs. Not until years later did she discover that the root cause of her infertility was a food intolerance.
