I may come across as candid here, but I know many of us have gone through the daily dilemmas of popping pills and sitting through extensive therapies, all because we desperately want to conceive a child. Many of us have gone years and years with this struggle, trying everything that hits the market in an effort to correct our hormonal imbalances. Hormonal imbalance is a leading factor in infertility and may be the culprit of the following symptoms:
- too little bleeding or too few periods
- too much bleeding
- abnormally short or long cycles
- pain including PMS and menstrual cramping
- headaches
- mood swings
- depression and loss of self confidence
- And above all, inability to conceive
So let me present my view on yet another possible dream catcher I’ve been researching: Maca Root. For ages Maca has been used to aid in hormonal abnormality. Maca is an adaptogenic herb and, since 1961, has been used extensively in both scientific research as well as treatment in regards to infertility. The word “adaptogenic” correlates with the action that this particular herb adapts to a body’s specific needs and also shields the body from disease. Maca is an herb that not many people have heard of; but despite this, Maca has been used since traditional times. Native Peruvians had utilized this medicinal root for over two millennia in the treatment of infertility and for lack in endurance, energy, vitality, and sexual virility.
This herb is also very nutritious, containing 31 varying minerals and 60 different phytonutrients (nutrients proven to provide health benefits). Because of this, Maca also plays the part of a very beneficial food source, providing support for the endocrine system and also aiding in the health of the pituitary, adrenal, and thyroid glands (the glands which, might I add, control the production and integrity of hormones).
Maca contains specific compounds, called glucosinolates, which allow this particular root to have immense benefits for fertility and on the human body in general. Studies show that use of Maca increases sperm count and activity in men and allows for normality between cycles and easier ovulation in women. This herb also, because of its effect on certain hormone-producing glands, replenishes and balances hormone levels to a natural and healthy state. This aspect is important because often if a woman has high estrogen levels, probability of conceiving and carrying a baby to term is less likely.
Maca root not only improves fertility in men and women, but also can fundamentally change how you go about life; providing much needed energy for you to go about your day. I don’t know about you, but I think Maca Root may be worth a closer look. What do you think?
…Perhaps Maca is the answer to all these years of struggling.
