Self care is defined as any intentional actions YOU take to care for your physical, mental and emotional health. These days, good self care can be quite challenging.
With so many demands, you find yourself too tired to even think about what you NEED.
Especially when we are constantly giving to others and put our needs and wants last.
As you begin your journey, fertility and self-care go hand and hand. Once you start to make time for yourself by creating space, you will notice subtle shifts in your day to day life; mentally, physically and emotionally.
For some of us, being kind and loving to yourself might feel strange at first.
You might feel guilty that you are finally doing what makes you feel good.
However, once you make self care a part of your daily routine, you will feel less anxious and more calm.
You will feel less pain and more relief.
You will feel happier and more content.
So, what do you need to do to make you feel more JOY and LOVE?
To live presently and peacefully?
Think for a moment about the purpose of a yoga practice; we come to the mat to open up the body using various stretches, creating SPACE in your physical body.
Therefore, opening the emotional body.
We take this time because we know yoga is a way to love ourselves.
Once we show up on the mat, we can move into our body with less judgment and just be present.
It leaves us feeling more calm, refreshed and peaceful.
Here are some ideas for self care:
Nature walks or Hikes
Daily yoga practice or meditation
Facials/spa days
Massages
Sitting by a lake
Take 3 cleansing breaths
Painting/art/crafts
Dance or take dance lessons
(I recommend Belly Dancing)
Positive self talk-give yourself 3 compliments a day
Embrace the seasons. No matter what season we are in, there are so many wondering things to do and see. Summer offers us cottages, lakes, long walks on the beach and c amp fires. Winter offers us cozy sweaters, skating, skiing and nourishing soups. Make time to enjoy the little things the world offers.
Self care also begins with living in the moment.
We all have specific needs when it comes to diet and supplementation. Including more WHOLE FOODS in your diet is another way of SELF CARE. Proper nutrition and getting the right nutrients will not only make you feel more vibrant and more energetic, but will NOURISH your body with what it needs for pregnancy. And finally, boundaries!
Once you identify your physical, emotional and soulful needs, you may need to take a look at who is in your life currently and exploring how they make you feel. Just like the food we eat, we are nourished by people.
Surround yourself with uplifting, happy and encouraging people.
Self care is not only about carving out time for yourself so you can love and nourish your body, mind and soul, but it comes from a place of respect and gratitude.
With a little bit of attention, you will feel more connected to your body opening up space for your new baby.
